Montréal, January 25, 2022
In June 2021, Stéphane and I decided to offer part of our collection of contemporary jewelry and objects for the benefit of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Our donation focused on 33 original and unique works by 34 artists from 17 nationalities. This donation is distinguished by the aesthetic and conceptual qualities of the work and offers a fresh look at the artistic possibilities of this discipline. We are very pleased that this offer has been accepted by the MMFA’s Decorative Arts and Design Acquisitions Committee, it updates the museum’s current collection.
In 2000, when the Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts closed, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts acquired a collection of more than 5,000 decorative art objects in all categories through an exceptional gift from the late Liliane and David M. Stewart. This collection consisted of an impressive number of modern and contemporary jewelry; a collection considered at that time to be one of the most important in the world. We wish by our donation to contribute to the enrichment of the permanent collection of the museum. We are grateful that the museum participates in the influence of contemporary jewelry. A sincere thank you to Jennifer Laurent, the current Curator of Decorative and Modern Arts and to Diane Charbonneau, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Photography from 2001 to 2019 at the MMFA.
