2+2+2

Collective exhibition

2 + 2 + 2

October 5 – November 9, 2024

Opening reception  on Saturday, October 5 from 1 to 5 pm in the presence of  Helena Lehtinen and Eija Mustonen

The new exhibition 2 + 2 + 2 is the result of a proposal made to two artists represented by the gallery, Eija Mustonen and Helena Lehtinen: To invite two artists of their choice!

Helena Lehtinen  + Sofia Björkman + Nils Hint

Eija Mustonen + Jutta Kallfelz + Ketli Tiitsar

Founding members of the Finnish collective Hibernate, these two artists exhibited alongside the two other members Tarja Tuupanen and Jenni Sokura at the gallery in 2021. They exhibit together regularly at international events. The collective’s working method consists of an initial pooling of sketches and ideas, then the creative work takes place individually, with results of personal interpretation for each.

For this project, Helena and Eija chose to introduce us to artists whose work they particularly admire. The list could have been more exhaustive, but having to choose only two became a restrictive, stimulating, perhaps destabilizing challenge. With this selection, the exhibition invites you to discover an interesting diversity of languages and approaches. These guests are all exhibiting for the first time at the gallery!

Sofia Björkman and Nils Hint are the guests of Helena Lehtinen.  She wrote about the duo :

Drawings and fragments from conversations .

Two artists mastering their skills, both in material and artistic way.

Light and heavy at the same time.

Nils with metal and Sofia with PLA.

Sofia’s layer by layer growing wonderful combination of plants, smoothly colored , creating a sort of

garden , that you want to explore.

Nils writing on the air. Seemingly light but hides the effort of forcing his hard material.

Powerful , mysterious messages.

Sofia Nils

On her side, Eija Mustonen has invited  Ketli Tiitsar and Jutta Kallfelz. Her quote about her choice :

What I love about Ketli’s work is the way she handles the materials she uses and her deep and subtle understanding of different materials. The works are both rich and simple at the same time.

Jutta’s works have found the essential, they lack nothing and cannot be added to. The works are very compact, sculptural. The material is deeply respected, and the treatment is always fully thought out and worked on.
