Donald Friedlich is a leading figure in contemporary jewelry. He received his BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1982. Friedlich has lectured at conferences and universities all over in the United States and abroad. He also served a term as president of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. His jewelry has been shown in an impressive number of national and international exhibitions. Friedlich’s work is included in museums all over the world and is in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Smithsonian Institution; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Corning Museum of Glass, and many others.
Lumina Series is a continuation of his interest in identifying qualities that are unique to jewelry as medium. Some designs dramatically shift in color when viewed at different angles, others in color intensity. They are in part inspired by the effect of the sunlight that is reflected by the moon, and at times, diffused by cloud cover or fog.
