Jutta Kallfelz

In Wild Garden, a collection of brooches, Kallfelz explores a deep connection to nature, translating the organic beauty of living things – namely rabbits and flowers – into a realistic yet unexpected visual language. In an extensive work process, Kallfelz carves intricate details in her subjects in wood, metal, and minerals, rendering them immediately recognizable to viewers, despite only showing a section of each form.

With my rabbits, I am concerned with making living beings visible. The real image is of central importance to me. In the fragment I want to suggest the image of the living animal,  Kallfelz explains. She primarily depicts the ears and backs of the rabbits, their principal means for communication via body language. Through Kallfelz’s tender and playful pieces, that double as sculpture, she investigates the intersection of reality and imagination, transcending boundaries that challenge conventional notions of adornment.

Jutta is a contemporary artist – jeweler based in Bad Münstereifel, Germany. She graduated from the University of art and design in Halle, Germany, with a degree in jewelry and sculpture.
