Marie-Eve G. Castonguay holds a diploma from the École de joaillerie de Québec and a BFA in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing from NSCAD University. Her work has been showcased in Canada and abroad. She has received honors and support from Harbourfront Centre, Autor and Joya Art Jewellery Fairs, Craft Ontario and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. She recently was invited to participate in Koru6 in Finland.
Inspired by themes of intimacy, her work explores our relationship with gardens. She creates wearable gardens in which laser cut paper tabs are positioned randomly, recalling the movement of plants being blown by the wind. With rigid structures mimicking the various zones of a garden, she creates enclosed spaces in which all things possible may happen. Using the categorization and organization principles of garden design, she turns disorder into order, unconsciousness into consciousness and spontaneity into arrangement and calculation. Her pieces are like small-scale gardens in which one can find comfort or get lost.
